Pennsylvania National Fire Museum, Harrisburg, PA

Museums

The Pennsylvania National Fire Museum opened in 1996 in a beautifully restored late 19th Century firehouse that served a large portion of uptown Harrisburg. The museum contains a variety of permanent and rotating displays of rare and fascinating firefighting memorabilia. Highlights include a hand pumper built by Richard Mason in Philadelphia in 1791, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, hand pumper in original condition in the United States, as well as the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Headquarters from the City of Johnstown, PA, said to be the largest Gamewell headquarters operational within a museum. Also featured is a red painted hose carriage dating to the 1850's originally used by the Neptune Hose Company of Philadelphia.
